LinkedIn Poll

When my audience on LinkedIn was polled they felt the thing that makes the biggest difference was how you connect with your students.

However, every single one of these makes a difference depending on how you position them.

Showcase Your Personality and Connection with Students

Your unique personality and the way you connect with students are crucial. It’s not just about what you teach, but how you teach.

Share your story. Did you struggle as a kid or know someone who did? How did you or your friend overcome those challenges? This personal narrative can resonate with potential students and their parents, making you more relatable and trustworthy.

In fact, when I created this video 8 years ago (by the way the editing is terrible, but it still worked) I got a client that stayed with me for 10 months bringing in $4,000.  Watch this video to see how you don't have to master your tech to share your story.

Highlight Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP)

Create a Unique Selling Proposition (USP) that focuses on your uniqueness, is customer-centric, and is clear and concise. Your USP should grab attention in a crowded marketplace and help shape your brand identity. For instance:

"You know how lots of kids today are struggling with [specific issue]? Well, I help them [solution] so they can [result]."

This simple sentence can effectively communicate what makes you unique and how you can help.

Share Success Stories and Specific Strategies

Instead of just saying you individualize instruction, show how you do it. Share specific success stories. For example, a tutor shared with me how she worked with a student who had autism and ADHD. She incorporated brain breaks during sessions to optimize learning and used songs and games to make the lessons more engaging. This tangible example is far more compelling than simply stating that she individualizes instruction.

Describe the Resources and Tools You Use

Explain what platforms and tools you use and why. Do you use Zoom or Koala Go? What makes these platforms the best choice for your students? Detailing your tools and their benefits demonstrates your thoughtfulness and dedication to providing the best learning experience.

Build Strong Relationships with Your Students

Small gestures can build strong relationships. For younger students, I engage with them and their stuffed animals or toys for the first few minutes of class. This helps in building rapport and showing that I care about their world. Such personal touches can make a big difference in creating a positive and effective learning environment.

Be Part of Professional Communities

Joining professional communities and organizations that support your business and teaching skills is crucial. Connecting with other tutors, sharing insights, and continuously learning can enhance your skills and reputation. Share your involvement in these communities online to show your commitment to professional growth.

I have my own professional community where we learn how to create an online presence so you can get found hired and referred called the Insider Secrets Club 3.0.  To learn more about it watch how we go about creating content here and how we support each other.
